About Me and Classes
Welcome to Kangatraining Ballarat!
Who am I?
Hi my name is Tara Singh and I am a mum to a 2.5 year old daughter who is now in the toddler phase! I have been working for a Ballarat business for 7 years and call Ballarat my second home. I grew up in a rural area in South Australia and so I enjoy how Ballarat has everything at its doorstep (hospitality, healthcare, community and entertainment). The weather is something through that I have had to adjust too but let’s just say that I have adjusted by ensuring I always have a coat handy!
Why did I become an instructor?
Prior to having my daughter, I enjoyed the physical and mental health benefits exercise provided! When my daughter arrived I struggled to enjoy exercise with her as it wasn’t as intense and social as what I was used to, and she was and still is very clingy. I didn’t have Kangatraining in my community at the time, but when I came across my doula doing the Kangatraining instructor course I became curious. I had tried to go to a gym with a creche but wasn’t always successful in doing a workout as she was too clingy. I felt that if I was feeling like this, I was sure other mums would too and that is what motivated me to become an instructor.
What is Kangatraining?
It is a 60 minute low impact workout for postpartum mums/carergiver and bubs where we combine cardio with strength base exercises whilst bub is in the carrier or pram. The program was designed by physiotherapists, midwifes and babywearing consultants.
When in postpartum can mums and bubs start?
To ensure an adequate recovery post-delivery as per best practice, I need to ensure two things before starting classes you have:
- Passed timeframes post-delivery (6 weeks post vaginal delivery or 12 weeks post C Section)
- Clearance from a health professional (eg. physio, midwife, doctor) to return to exercise
Do I need a carrier? Are all carriers suitable?
No, you don’t need a carrier as I have suitable carriers for exercise you can use which is included in the class fee. If you have a carrier, not all carriers are suitable for exercise as they do not provide the optimal support whilst exercising. On the health questionaire I do ask this question and do discuss this with you before class.
Can you provide carrier fittings?
During class I can provide carrier fitting for suitable kangatraining carriers. For carriers that are not suitable for kanga I can provide resources and further suggest talking to a local babywearing consultant, closest one is in Geelong (Zeynep @ Snuggle Gully Babywearing Consultations | Snuggle Gully).
What ways do we wear bubs in the carrier?
- Bub facing inwards from newborn until comfortable for mum and bub and depending on carriers weight requirements.
- Bub in back carry from when bub can sit independently and as they grow it is better for mums back.
We don’t allow bubs facing outwards as it is not ideal for both mum and bub ergonomically whilst exercising.
What can you expect in a class?
Both indoor and outdoor are similar with a work rest ratio set up. The classes go for 60 minutes and see below an outline of class structure.
- Warm up – Coordination exercises, awareness exercises
- Floor work (only indoor classes)

What types of classes do you offer?

Does my bub have to be in a carrier?
No, if bub is happy outside the carrier, they can be in the pram, playpen (indoor class venue only) or close to you.
After booking what can I expect?
You will receive a link to a health questionnaire to ensure I understand any health conditions that I need to adjust exercises for.
Can I pay cash or internet transfer?
Yes, please contact me via email, Instagram or facebook so I can provide you the bank details and the link the health questionaire before class.
Can older kids join class?
Yes absolutely! Kangatraining is a family friendly class and the indoor class is at a gym that supports mums with kids @ Bek Meadows Fitness!
